Manas in Slack

Approvals

When Manas asks you before it does something as you, when it just does it with an Undo, and how to choose.

When you ask Manas to do something as you (draft an email, add a calendar event, add a task, update a sheet, send a Slack message, create an agent, remember or forget something), it prepares the exact action first. Usually a card shows you exactly what it will do, with Confirm, Edit and Cancel. See Direct messages.

Ask me only when needed

Once your team turns it on, your Approvals setting can let Manas skip the card for small things that only touch your own stuff and can be undone. Manas then does it straight away and posts a note where the card would have been:

✅ Created task "Send the Q3 deck" · Open task list [Undo] Approved without asking: You asked for this reminder at 5 pm · Undo works for 24 h · /manas settings → Approvals

Press Undo (within 24 hours) and Manas reverses it: the draft, event, task or copy is deleted, rows it added are cleared, cells it changed get their old values back, a memory gets its old text back (a new one is removed). The note then says Undone.

Manas does it without asking only when all of these are true:

  • you asked for it in Slack, just now, yourself (not a scheduled chat);
  • it only touches your own things: a draft (nothing is sent), an event with no other guests, your own task list, a sheet you own that isn't shared with anyone, a copy in your own Drive, your own memory;
  • it can be undone;
  • a quick check finds it is exactly what you asked for (the same thing, the same details), and you haven't often changed or cancelled this kind of action before. For a memory, your own message must ask Manas to remember exactly that fact; a detail from an email, a file, a web page, the thread or an earlier answer always gets the card, and so does a change that drops facts you didn't mention.

Manas always asks

Whatever your setting, you always get the card for:

  • anything that reaches someone else: an event with guests, a reply to an invitation, a Slack message as you, a file someone else owns or that you've shared with anyone, sharing an agent;
  • creating or changing an agent or skill, even one only you can use: its instructions run every time it's used, so you always check them first;
  • anything that deletes something, including forgetting a memory;
  • anything that can't be undone, such as changing a doc's text;
  • anything a scheduled chat prepares: nobody is there to watch it, so it always waits for you;
  • anything you ask in the web chat (you get the confirm link there);
  • anything Manas isn't sure about. If its check can't run, it asks.

Choose your setting

Open the Manas Home tab in Slack, or type /manas settings in your DM with Manas.

Next to Approvals, pick Ask me only when needed (the default) or Always ask.

Always ask brings back a card for every action. You can switch back and forth any time; Manas confirms the change at the top of the Home tab.
