Manas in Slack

Morning brief

Every weekday at 10:00 IST, one message in your DM with Manas: your Top 3, what needs your reply in Slack and Gmail, and today's meetings.

The Morning brief is a built-in scheduled chat. Every weekday at 10:00 IST Manas sends you one message: what needs your reply in Slack and Gmail (Top 3 first) and today's meetings, with clashes and prep. It's personal: it arrives only in your DM with Manas, runs as you, and is never posted in a channel. It's off until you turn it on.

It only reads. The brief never sends, posts, accepts or changes anything.

Turn it on

Right after you press Connect, Manas sends you a DM: Manas can work for you in the background, with Turn on Morning brief and Turn on Dreaming. The same card is on the Manas Home tab, under Scheduled chats, for the ones you haven't turned on yet.

Press Turn on Morning brief. It then shows at the top of your Scheduled chats with a Built-in tag.

What's in it

  • Top 3 comes first: the three things to do first, each with what to do and a link.
  • Needs your action: Slack threads and DMs where you were @-mentioned or asked something and haven't replied (read with Slack as you, in public and private channels, DMs and group DMs you're in), and unread Gmail from people waiting on a reply. Newsletters and notifications are skipped. Both are merged into one ranked list.
  • Today: your meetings in order, clashes, meetings without an agenda, and prep for each: related Drive files and your last email or Slack thread with the people in it.

If Dreaming is on and one of your commitments from its notes is due today or overdue (by up to 3 days), the brief shows at most one line under its heading: From Dreaming: ….

Buttons under the brief

At the end of every brief (and its test run), just above its footer, one row of buttons for the Top 3 items:

  • Draft reply for 1, 2 or 3 (on items where someone is waiting on your reply) asks Manas, in the thread, to draft a reply. Anything it would send waits for you to confirm on a card.
  • Open 1, 2 or 3 opens the item's link.

If something isn't connected

If Slack (as you) or Google (Gmail, Calendar, Drive) isn't connected, the brief shows a Connect … line with the link, and the rest still arrives. See Connect.

Change its time or turn it off

Find it at the top of /manas schedule list or the Home tab's Scheduled chats, with its code (8 characters, like k7m2p9qx).

  • Turn off or Turn on: the ⋯ menu on the Home tab, or /manas schedule pause / resume with the code.
  • Change the time or days: /manas schedule time with the code and any schedule, for example /manas schedule time k7m2p9qx every weekday 9:30, every day 8:15, every Monday 10:00, or with a time zone, 9:00 Europe/London.
  • Test run (only you see it): the ⋯ menu or /manas schedule test with the code. For a built-in, Run now is a test run too.

You can't delete it (Delete turns it off and tells you so), and you can't edit its question: the brief's instructions are built into Manas. It doesn't count toward your 10 scheduled chats.
