What it is
The Morning brief is a built-in scheduled chat. It runs as you, every weekday at 10:00 IST, and arrives only in your DM with Manas, never in a channel. It is off until you turn it on. It only reads: it never sends, posts, accepts or changes anything.
- Top 3: the three things to do first, each with what to do and a link.
- Needs your action: Slack threads and DMs where you were @-mentioned or asked something and haven't replied (read with Slack as you), and unread Gmail from people waiting on a reply (newsletters and notifications are skipped), merged and ranked.
- Today: your meetings in order, clashes, meetings without an agenda, and prep for each: related Drive files and your last email or Slack thread with the people in it.
If Dreaming is on and one of your commitments from its notes is due today or overdue (by up to 3 days), the brief shows at most one line under its heading: From Dreaming: …
It sits at the top of your Scheduled chats with a Built-in tag: you can turn it on or off and change the time, but not delete it.
When to use it
- You start the day digging through Slack, Gmail and your calendar to see what matters.
- You lose track of who asked you something and is still waiting.
- You want prep for today's meetings without searching for it.
How to use it
- In Slack, open your DM with @manas (the card Manas can work for you in the background arrives right after you press Connect), or Manas's Home tab, under Scheduled chats.
- Press Turn on Morning brief. It appears at the top of your Scheduled chats with a
Built-intag. - For the full brief, connect Slack (as you) and Google (Gmail, Calendar, Drive) when Manas asks.
- Each weekday at 10:00 IST the brief arrives in your DM. At its end, Draft reply for 1/2/3 asks Manas to draft one (anything to send waits for you to confirm on a card), and Open 1/2/3 opens the link.
- Want another time? Type
/manas schedule listto find its code (likek7m2p9qx), then for example/manas schedule time k7m2p9qx every weekday 9:30.
Good to know
- Turn it off or on from the ⋯ menu on the Home tab, or with
/manas schedule pauseorresumeand its code. - Test run (only you see it) from the ⋯ menu or
/manas schedule test. For a built-in, Run now is a test run too. /manas schedule timetakes any schedule:every day 8:15,every Monday 10:00, or a time zone like9:00 Europe/London.- You can't delete it (Delete turns it off and says so) or edit its question: the instructions are built into Manas. It doesn't count toward your 10 scheduled chats.
If something goes wrong
- It says "Connect …"
- Slack (as you) or Google isn't connected. Use the link; the rest of the brief still arrives.
- I don't see the button
- Connect Manas first (the card only shows once you're connected), or it's already on: find it at the top of
/manas schedule list. - It stopped arriving
- It may be turned off. Check
/manas schedule listor the Home tab and turn it on.
